Authorities have initiated a murder inquiry following the discovery of human remains on a path leading to Bournemouth beach over the weekend.
A member of the public stumbled upon the remains amidst undergrowth adjacent to the Manor Steps zig-zag path in Boscombe, a suburb of the Dorset seaside town. The finding occurred at approximately 1:10 pm.
Upon receiving the report, police swiftly initiated an investigation, cordoning off the footpath that descends the 100ft sloping cliff to the main promenade. As of Monday, the path remains closed, and police dogs are combing the nearby grassland close to where the remains were located.
The gender of the victim—male or female—is yet to be determined, and the length of time the remains had been on the clifftop remains uncertain.
Detective Inspector Neil Third, part of the Dorset Police Major Crime Investigation Team, remarked, “We are treating this as a murder investigation, and our enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding their death. I am appealing to anyone with any information regarding this matter, or who has seen any suspicious activity around the area of the Manor Steps zig-zag in Boscombe in recent days, to please inform police. Any information, images or other material can be uploaded to the major incident public portal that has been set up.”
A cordon remains in effect at the scene while meticulous further enquiries are conducted. Detective Inspector Third thanked the public for their cooperation during this period, assuring that an enhanced police presence will persist in the vicinity, and officers are ready to receive any information or concerns from the public.
