Jason Pryor, a former US basketball player, recently shattered the world record for the “most basketball three-pointers in one minute” by sinking an incredible 33 shots in just 60 seconds. This remarkable feat took place on September 5, surpassing the previous record of 31 held by Anthony Miracola since 2019.
For those unfamiliar, a three-pointer in basketball is a shot made from beyond the three-point line, which is situated 7.23 meters (23 feet 9 inches) away from the basket.
What makes Pryor’s achievement even more extraordinary is that he had previously set the record for the “most basketball three-pointers in 30 seconds” by successfully making 18 shots in April of this year. Notably, prior to Pryor, no one attempting this record had managed to meet the minimum requirement of 15 successful shots.
According to Guinness World Records, Pryor, now 44, was renowned for his three-point shooting skills during his time at Longwood University. In the 2001-02 season, he impressively scored over 40 percent of his three-point attempts.
However, a severe ankle injury prevented him from pursuing a career in the NBA. After his recovery, Pryor played professionally for six European basketball clubs. Currently, he dedicates himself to coaching basketball.
Reflecting on his record-breaking attempts, Pryor remarked, “They (the records) are extremely difficult because of the accuracy and speed required from such a long distance. I knew a successful attempt would not happen overnight. I was on a strong diet of patience, disappointment, and resilience for many weeks.”
When asked about his technique for achieving the perfect three-pointer, Pryor shared, “Balanced feet, eyes on the front of the rim from any angle, shooting elbow bent at 45 degrees, hands spread wide across the ball, a crisp wrist flick, and an exaggerated follow-through.”
Offering advice to budding basketball players, Pryor recommended starting slow and practicing from mid-range distances before attempting three-pointers, emphasizing that “many young players are putting the cart before the horse!
