Reliance Industries, the prominent Indian conglomerate, has joined forces with US chipmaker Nvidia in a groundbreaking collaboration aimed at developing cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) applications for India. This partnership marks a significant stride toward supporting India’s industrial sector.
A key focus of this collaboration is the creation of a robust foundation for large language models, meticulously trained on India’s diverse languages. These models will be tailored for generative AI applications, specifically designed to cater to the needs of the world’s most populous nation.
To achieve this ambitious goal, Nvidia will provide access to its state-of-the-art NVIDIA® GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip and the NVIDIA DGX™ Cloud – an AI supercomputing service hosted in the cloud. The GH200 Superchip represents a pivotal advancement in computing architecture, boasting exceptional performance and immense memory bandwidth.
The AI infrastructure, powered by Nvidia’s cutting-edge technology, will find its home in AI-ready computing data centers. These centers are slated for significant expansion, with a projected capacity reaching an impressive 2,000 MW. The execution and implementation of this monumental undertaking will be orchestrated by Jio, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries.
Jio, with its extensive portfolio and experience spanning mobile telephony, 5G spectrum, fiber networks, and more, is ideally positioned to oversee the successful realization of this transformative AI initiative. Together, Reliance and Nvidia are set to revolutionize AI applications in India, charting a course toward innovation and progress in the field of artificial intelligence.
