Authorities are currently investigating a disturbing incident where a pensioner in his late 70s was assaulted during a home burglary in Athlone, Co Westmeath. The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday, leaving the elderly victim with injuries, fortunately not life-threatening.
During the burglary, a group of individuals targeted the pensioner’s residence and managed to escape with a sum of cash. The injured man was promptly transported to a hospital for medical attention.
Law enforcement is urging anyone with information related to this incident to come forward and assist in their investigation. They are particularly interested in hearing from individuals who were in the Ballykeeran/Glasson Road (N55) vicinity of Athlone between 1:00 am and 5:00 am on Saturday morning and may have witnessed any suspicious activity.
Additionally, road users who may possess video footage, including dash-cam recordings, from this area during the specified time frame are encouraged to share it with the police.
